Our Safety Guidelines

 
     

  • In addition to the Israeli government's strict security measures taken to guard public places, we take additional precautions to ensure participant safety. Taglit-Birthright Israel works with several international airlines in order to safely bring our participants to Israel.  The airlines we work with are all accredited members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and operate within the guidelines of their Operational Safety Audit. 

  • While trips are running, Taglit-Birthright Israel operates a 24-hour hotline and each Trip Organizer will provide participants and their families with additional contact information. We are always available via e-mail at information@birthrightisrael.com or via telephone at 1-888-99-ISRAEL (1-888-994-7723) should you have further questions.

  • These precautions include careful planning of each group's itineraries on a daily basis:

  • 1. All Trip Organizers are experienced tour operators or providers and have undergone rigorous accreditation in order to run trips.

  • 2. Participants stay with their group the entire duration of the trip and are not allowed to explore or visit with Israelis on their own.

  • 3. Trip itineraries are approved daily with the "Situation Monitoring Room" administered by the Israel Ministry of Education, and coordinated with the I.D.F., Israel Police and other security authorities.

  • 4. Our tours do not travel to or through Gaza, or East Jerusalem, other than the Jewish Quarter of the Old City (changes are possible when permitted by the security authorities). Throughout each day, itineraries are cleared through the official government authorities who also review all educational field trips for Israeli schools and educational institutions.

  • 5. Trips do not use public transportation and the tour bus companies and drivers used are subject to Taglit-Birthright Israel’s strict standards. Drivers are instructed to never leave buses unlocked or unattended.

  • 6. A GPS (Global Positioning System) is carried by each group so that authorities are aware of each group's location at all times. A group's itinerary will be changed immediately to reflect any heightened risk or security concerns.

  • 7. A safety and security orientation is held for every group upon arrival in Israel, and your Trip Organizers will brief you regularly of the security arrangements for the day. The orientation and briefings will include guidelines for free time and general travel safety. Free time will be supervised and in specified locations as security considerations warrant.

  • 8. At least one armed Israeli security escort and a trained medic accompany every group.

  • 9. All lodging is subject to high standards of comfort and provides amenities that accommodate each group.

  • 10. In order to ensure a safe trip for all participants and staff, we strictly enforce our alcohol policy.
