Canada Israel Experience (CIE) is committed to the development of Jewish identity based on the centrality of Israel through the building of relationships between and among the Jewish people of Israel and Canada. As the Israel Experience arm of the Canadian Jewish federations, CIE operates on a community based program model that focuses on the notion of building community and connecting the participants to their local Jewish institutions upon their return from Israel. Through an extensive training of our madrichim (trip staff) they are equipped to act as informal Jewish educators, capable of inspiring their participants while in Israel and conducting programs aimed at fostering a stronger Jewish identity both in Israel and upon their return to Canada. Our goals are to expose our participants to the diversity Israel and Jewish peoplehood offer, and to gain an understanding of the history of the Jewish people and the modern state of Israel. Connecting young Canadian Jews to the wonders of Israel and ensuring that there will exist a strong and viable Canadian Jewish community are the pillars of the Birthright Israel: CIE experience.
Canada Israel Experience (CIE) is an organization born of the collective vision to strengthen Jewish identity among Jewish youth and young adults through participation in meaningful Israel Experience programs. Since 1996, CIE has proven to uphold a tradition of excellence in preserving the highest quality of educational, logistical, and safety standards. As the only Israel tour organizer in Canada, our organization is committed to ensuring that all of our programs provide CIE participants with a unique, unparalleled Israel Experience. It is Canada Israel Experience’s goal to meet and respond to the needs of the Canadian Jewish community.
As a not-for-profit organization, CIE is funded through Jewish Federations of Canada - UIA by local UJA/CJA Federations across Canada. CIE prides itself in playing an active role within the Jewish Federation system. Canada Israel Experience is proud to maintain a national network of local Israel Experience representatives. In every major Canadian Jewish community, CIE employs a regional Canada Israel Experience professional ready to facilitate and assist participants in preparing for their Israel Experience. In addition to helping orient individuals before their trip to Israel, CIE community representatives are also eager to help all interested Canada Israel Experience alumni obtain the necessary tools and knowledge needed to get involved in their home Jewish community and/or return to Israel.
Each Birthright Israel: CIE trip is led by an Israeli tour educator. In addition to being certified as tour guides, all educators undergo extensive preparation and training to make them experts at teaching the sites, subjects, and stories that matter to Canadian Jewish young adults. CIE tour educators come from an array of backgrounds, each bringing his/her own experiences to share with the group. Beyond simply informing, tour educators are expected to challenge participants with the thought-provoking questions to enable them to determine what Israel means to them.
Every Birthright Israel: CIE trip has one male and one female Canadian staff. All CIE staff successfully complete an intensive Leadership Development Program training them in a wide range of areas including experiential Jewish education, group facilitation, community building, Shabbat programming and identity formation.
Our Madrichim are the cream of the crop: they’re passionate, fun, engaging Jewish role models. They cannot wait to show you how amazing this experience can be and will be there for you upon your return to guide you in continuing your journey after the trip.
