Kesher is for Jewish young adults from all backgrounds looking for a thoughtful approach to experiencing Israel. We embody the openness of progressive Judaism, and a welcoming spirit for all who seek adventure. We’re all about getting closer to the best that Israel has to offer: the most iconic sites, Mediterranean culinary delights, new and inspiring ideas, majestic desert starscapes, swimming off the coast of serene beaches, and a jam-packed ten-day journey where every moment counts.

Vision Statement

We’re Kesher, we believe that life’s greatest experiences are shared with others. That’s why our name - Kesher - is Hebrew for connection. Since 1999, tens of thousands of 18-26 year olds have chosen to discover the magic of Israel together with us, and we haven’t stopped perfecting your experience since then. We embody the openness of progressive Judaism, and a welcoming spirit for all who seek adventure. URJ Kesher trips provide an inspiring journey through Israel to help you find meaning and connection as you explore new places and meet new people. On our program you will:

  • Build Community
  • Express Judaism in your own way
  • Make life-long friends or reunite with old friends
  • Learn about Israel first-hand and think for yourself
  • Embark an incredible adventure to challenge your body, mind and spirit

At URJ Kesher we know there is more than one authentic way to be Jewish, and that is why on our trip we encourage you to connect with Israel and Judaism in a meaningful and inspiring way that reflects your interests and your Jewish background. We’re devoted to an open, honest, and inspirational approach to learning about politics, religion, culture, and society. We offer a complex narrative in a complex country which both celebrates Israel’s achievements and acknowledges its challenges. Experience the best of today’s Israel – from a pluralistic, modern and postmodern perspective!

Reform, inclusive of all backgrounds

Our Organization

The Union for Reform Judaism seeks to inspire and embrace Jewish life as a path to meaning, purpose and joy. The URJ Builds community at every level—from the way we collaborate with congregations, organizations, and individuals to how we make connections across North America to advance contemporary and inclusive Jewish life. We prioritize Tikkun Olam and audacious hospitality- creating a world of wholeness, compassion, and justice. Together, we are leveraging existing opportunities and launching new initiatives to engage and create a culture that is meaningful to more young adults and youth. URJ Youth programs provide more than 14,000 young people and young adults with inspiring and engaging immersive Jewish experiences in camps across North America, in NFTY- our high school youth organization, and our travel programs to Israel, Europe, Central and South America.

The Trip Staff Team

Staff on URJ Kesher trips are qualified and experienced, with strong backgrounds in informal Jewish and Israel Education. Our staff embodies a spirit of inclusiveness, tolerance, and progressive thinking. They are often senior staff at URJ Camps, youth professionals from Reform congregations and college campuses across North America and are deeply engaged in Jewish life from a myriad of perspectives. Our trip leaders share their love of Israel and their own personal Jewish journeys, striving to connect and to inspire participants both during and after the program.

Working together with our North American staff, our Israeli Tour Guide-Educators strive for excellence ensuring a meaningful, enlightening, and fun-filled adventure in Israel. Highly qualified and engaging, each season they continue to share their love and knowledge of Israel with our groups, bringing a uniquely Israeli perspective to all aspects of the trip. As one of the original Birthright Israel providers, many of our Israeli Guides have been working with us since 1999, and have a deep appreciation and understanding for our shared goals and mission. Participants can look forward to making lasting friendships with their guide and trip staff for years to come
